Cayo Julio César fue un político y militar romano del siglo I antes de Cristo. Es considerado uno de los grandes conquistadores de la Historia.
Las legiones romanas estaban atravesando los Alpes. César, rodeado por algunos oficiales, guiaba la marcha, sumido en sus pensamientos. Los romanos llegaron a las cercanías de una aldea perdida entre las gigantescas montañas. Un oficial del séquito se acercó entonces al comandante y le dijo:
  • Contempla, oh César, esta miserable aldea. Y sin embargo también en ella habrá alguien ansioso por ser el jefe.
Julio César miró fijamente a su oficial y le contestó:
  • Preferiría ser el primero en cualquier aldea que el segundo en Roma.
Esta frase, tan altiva y orgullosa, lo dice todo sobre el carácter del caudillo romano.
